Spring Mixed Tennis Wed 16 Sept 2015 - Round 4

Round 4 of the Spring Mixed Tennis Competition was held at the Hamilton Lawn Tennis Club on Wednesday night in generally mild conditions, with the occasional shower of rain.

In a battle between mid-table stalwarts, Musketeers (Michael Kelso, Marcus Winter-Cooke, Andrew Lacey and Rod Evans) prevailed over Endangered Species (Graham Wolfe, Ken Lampard, Kathy Willsher and Jen Neaves) by the barest of margins, 3 sets all (31-30). Rod Evans was the rock upon which Musketeers success was built winning all 3 of his sets.

Equal ladder leaders Baimbridge (Paul Davis, Kym Fielke, Tryleen Phillips and Bruce McNaughton) won comfortably against Fresh Blood (Chris Cowland, Johnny Gardner, Aleesha Phillips and Wendy Robertson) 5 sets to 1 (34-15). New comer Johnny Gardner made a big impact for Fresh Blood combining with Aleesha Phillips to take the last set of the night (and give Aleesha a win over her sister Tryleen).

Pierce Poor had to draw on its considerable depth of reserves (Arthur Perry, John Pierce, Danny Franc and Helen Wilken) to just hold out BARK (Bernie Grant, Sally Allen, Lyndel Robinson and Wally Koch) 3 sets all (26-25). This was a hugely entertaining battle with the ability of Arthur Perry and Helen Wilken to hold Bernie Grant and Wally Koch to 2 games in the last set proving decisive.

For the second week in a row CG Racquets intimidated an opponent (Easy Hit) into an effective forfeit 6 sets to 0. Zeb Lewis, Alan Oakley and Hamish McDonald for CG Racquets and Steve Criddle, Sue Creedy and Wendy Dean for Easy Hit played a modified format to keep the ever improving CG Racquets in good shape.

Mixed tennis goes into recess until Wednesday 7th October when the top of the table clash between Pierce Poor and Baimbridge will be an eagerly awaited highlight.
